Occupational safety and health (OSH) is a field of public health that studies injuries and illnesses at workplaces, and implements strategies for preventing them. It includes a wide variety of disciplines, such as epidemiology or toxicology. Initially, the key area of concern for OSH were high-risk manual labor jobs. Today, however, regular OSH inspections are mandatory for all occupations.
Occupational health professionals need to make sure that workplaces have the appropriate safety precautions in place. They also work on minimizing short- and long-term hazards that can threaten the physical and mental health of employees.
