How to print from your iPhone, iPad or Android phone/tablet

Can it be done? Yes.

Is it easy? Somewhat.

Printing from iPhones and iPads

IPhone and iPad has a built-in wireless printing support through AirPrint.

AirPrint requires your phone/tablet to be in the same Wi-Fi network as the printer (the printer can be connected to the network through Ethernet as well).

The good news: There’s nothing to be downloaded/installed. Everything is already set.

Printing from Android phones and tablets

Android Kit Kat supports printing natively with Cloud Print. For other versions, there’s a free download of Cloud Print app available on Google Play store.

Cloud Print works over the Internet, so you don’t need to be in the same network as the printer is (as you would need for AirPrint), but obviously you do need an Internet connection.

The good news: You can print from anywhere.
For example you can print a contract for your boss to sign while you are still with a customer.

A list of printers compatible with both, AirPrint and Cloud Print:

  • Brother (DCP, HL, MFC)
  • Canon (MG, MX)
  • Epson (Stylus, XP)
  • HP (Color LaserJet, Designjet)
  • Samsung (CLP, CLX, ML, SCX, ProXpress, Xpress)
  • Ricoh

There are also other options out there. E.g. many printer manufacturers offer their own applications for wireless printing (Brother iPrint&Scan, Canon Mobile Printing, Epson iPrint, HP ePrint, Lexmark Mobile Printing, etc.).

Note: Printing from Windows Phone works with the combination of Print Now App ($0,99) and Google Cloud Print.

As for the Resco Mobile CRM…

Printing a document from iPhone - step 1Printing a document from iPhone - step 2In iOS, you can open an attachment directly in the Mobile CRM app and hit Print.

Printing a document from Android phone - step 1Printing a document from Android phone - step 2In Android, open the attachment in a 3rd party app (unless it’s a HTML file – those can be opened and printed directly in the Resco app). Choose whatever app you use for viewing documents and pictures. We have tested it on Adobe Reader, Quickoffice, Polaris, Gallery, Photos – all work just fine. Then select the Print option.
